SUMMARY:AML/CTF CPD
DESCRIPTION:So you know you’re caught by the new AML laws but you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you’re still not sure if you are caught. If you fall into one of these categories this presentation is for you. Brendan Leighton is local solicitor who just happens to be on the QLS Business Advisory Panel\, specifically to help legal practitioners with AML compliance. \nThe session will provide some practical tips on preparing your AML policies and procedures. It will also examine some of the AML outsourcing services currently on offer and different pricing models. \nThe AUSTRAC ‘starter kit’ is quite complex and has created some confusion for practitioners.  The session will provide you with practical guidance on finalising your AML policies and procedures. \nAML compliance is not something that can be fully delegated to your practice manager or outsourced to third party suppliers. Your AML policies and procedures must reflect the nature and scope of your operations. If these policies and procedures are incorrectly set\, you will fail your external independent review\, resulting in an adverse report being filed with AUSTRAC. \nBy the end of this one hour session you will have clarity on what you need to do to be fully compliant by 1 July. Principal solicitors are encouraged to attend with their practice managers.

SUMMARY:Richard Williams Memorial Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Date:          Wednesday\, 27 August 2025 \nTime:          5.30pm \nWhere:      Maroochy Surf Club \nSpeaker:   Robert Whiteford\nRobert Whiteford was admitted to the Bar in 1979 and spent the greater part of his distinguished career practising in succession law and equity. Following his retirement from advocacy in 2024\, he continues to contribute to the profession through his work as a mediator. \nIn this presentation\, Robert will explore two key topics: \n\nComments on Commission – a discussion of executors’ and trustees’ commission claims\, including practical and procedural considerations; and\nThe Tolerated Territory of Trusts – a reflection on whether trust deeds can validly extend trustee powers beyond those permitted under the Trusts Act\, even where the Act asserts its provisions operate despite contrary terms in the deed.\n\nWith his depth of experience and dry wit\, Robert brings thoughtful insight to these complex and often contentious areas of trust law. \n“Members: Please log in to receive your discounted ticket prices. Guest checkout only includes standard pricing.”
